Lunasalt Denim, a coastal apparel brand positioned 30 miles offshore on the faraway, sand-spit of Nantucket Island. We proudly wash our raw, sturdy US Selvage jeans in the sea.  As saltwater washing pioneers, we seamlessly blend old-world craftsmanship with the untamed spirit of the sea. Established in 2015, we harness Nantucket's natural elements to transform robust raw selvage denim jeans, jackets and selvage textiles into one of kind creations that resonate with the adventurous spirit of seamanship.

Commitment to Sustainability: Lunasalt is a versatile SeaWash Denim Company committed to revolutionizing denim processing with an unwavering dedication to sustainability. Specializing in breaking down raw (unwashed) garments and textiles, we employ natural and innovative practices inspired by the sea.

Steps Towards Sustainability:

  1. Biodegradable Detergents: Prioritizing the use of biodegradable detergents for the (optional) freshwater wash + rinse to minimize chemical impact in waterways.

  2. Utilize Sustainable Farming: Washing our jeans within an active sustainable oyster farm.

  3. Water Temperature Management: Optimizing water temperature, including the use of ambient sea and spring water, as a commitment to sustainable practices.

  4. Efficient Water Usage: Collecting natural spring water for the (optional) freshwater wash + rinse, with a responsible disposal process involving evaporation and careful sediment collection.

  5. Natural Dry: Embracing natural drying techniques, such as sun drying, with the refreshing essence of Nantucket sea air, eliminating the need for energy-intensive drying machines.

  6. Sustainable Fabric Choices: Exclusively sourcing deadstock materials that are 100 percent cotton, avoiding microplastics, and using deadstock American Cone Mills Selvage Denim from Greensboro, NC.

  7. US Hardware: On a journey to achieve 100% US materials, striving to reduce our carbon footprint by sourcing materials within the US.

  8. Waste Reduction: Sourcing product packaging and SeaWash rigging mechanisms from repurposed fishing equipment like used buoy systems, discarded bait bags, stranded fishing nets, and lines to contribute to waste reduction and shoreline cleanups.
